Is it the humble origins of Christ or the quiet obedience of Mary and Joseph? Are you inspired by the fulfillment of prophecy or the host of angels announcing the coming of the Messiah?
One thing is sure: at the time of Jesus’ birth, nobody was impressed by shepherds.
Shepherds were often considered the lowest class in society. They weren’t sophisticated, usually smelled bad, and had very lowly jobs of overseeing sheep. Yet, the greatest news the world had ever known was shared with them.
God doesn’t reserve His good news for people who have it all together.
The truth is, we’re all on equal footing when it comes to salvation. In fact, we learn later on in Luke’s gospel, “It is not the healthy people who need a doctor, but the sick.” Jesus wasn’t born to invite good people into the Kingdom of Heaven but to call sinners to change their hearts and lives.
What better way to share that good news than through the ministries of Hope United? And what better time than Christmas?
This holiday season, Hope United will assist dozens of broken, hurting individuals. Like the shepherds, our society doesn’t always treat these individuals with high esteem. Some, dare I say most, may think of the hungry or homeless as the lowest echelon of society.
I praise God that you have the heart of Jesus … a desire to share His grace and love with everyone … perhaps especially with those who are in need of the things we often take for granted.
“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’” (Luke 2:8-11)
This Christmas, you can share the Gospel with our neighbors in need when you provide:
· A safe place to call home for women recovering and healing from the myriad of difficulties this year had wrought.
· Essential furniture for neighbors coming out of homelessness who have no bed to sleep in or table to eat at.
· Support for members of the community overwhelmed with the difficulties of life who need a mentor/friend to help guide them through a trying time.
· Assistance for our homeless friends in taking the next steps in gaining self-sufficiency for their lives.
Please return a generous gift to Hope United today to provide the best Christmas gift of all: an invitation to know the Savior of the world, Jesus.
Your gift will serve as an announcement to every neighbor we help that they are worthy of knowing the Messiah.
Jesus is present through the ministries Hope United.
He is eager to be found by those who hear the “good news of great joy,” just like the shepherds heard over two thousand years ago.
The gift of salvation isn’t just for some people. It’s for everyone. Thanks for sharing it this Christmas.
November 12th, 2019 marked the grand opening of Amanda’s House; a residential treatment program located in Three Rivers; MI. Amanda’s House is the first of what Hope United envisions to be a dozen supportive housing units to be opened across the county. Over 100 individuals were in attendance at the ribbon cutting ceremony including representatives from Three Rivers Area Community Foundation and also State representative Aaron Miller.
There was such excitement in the air as recognition and thanks was given to the 232 volunteers who contributed approximately 2,183 volunteer hours toward the renovation project. Countless donors and supporters were instrumental in providing for the renovation of the home. Amanda’s House truly is the house that love built and it is evident from the first time you walk through the front door.
The theme, carried out all throughout the décor of the home, is “Daughters of the King.” Pictures of women and girls are displayed throughout the home, celebrating our high calling as women and serving as a reminder to the women living in the home that we are all daughters of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The message is that because of this truth, we can know that we are all loved and cherished for who God has created us to be.
We are so excited to welcome women to Amanda’s House very soon. We have no doubt that many lives will be changed and transformed because a community cared enough to make Amanda’s House possible!
